Shopify order tracking, explained

Customers follow their delivery on Shopify's order status page, which updates once an order has a tracking number. Here's how to add tracking and reduce "where is my order" messages.

Updated October 30, 2026

Add a tracking number

  1. In Shopify admin, open the order.
  2. In the Fulfilled section, click Add tracking.
  3. Enter the tracking number from your shipping provider. Shopify may detect the carrier.
  4. If the carrier is wrong, pick it from the Shipping carrier menu. If it isn't listed, choose Other and enter the full tracking URL.
  5. Save.

You can also add a number during fulfillment. Labels bought through Shopify Shipping fill it in automatically.

What customers see

The order status page shows statuses such as Confirmed, On its way, Out for delivery and Delivered. Customers can reach it from their account, the tracking link in the shipping email, or by entering their order number with their email or phone number.

To see what a customer sees, open the order and choose More actions, then View order status page.

If tracking isn't updating

If you fulfill an order with no tracking number, Shopify receives no shipping updates and the status stays at Confirmed. To let the customer know it arrived, mark the order as delivered.
